The Golden Eagles baseball team were swept by the first place Pioneers from the University of Antelope Valley, the number 17th ranked team in the nation. The Pioneers took all three conference games over a two-day span with an offense that scored double-digits in all three games, scoring a total of 43 runs. The losses drop the team's record to 11-20 overall and 3-14 in Cal Pac play.
Thursday, March 29
La Sierra – 7, UAV – 15
After trailing from the first inning, the Golden Eagles took their first lead of the game, 7-6, with a 3-run 6th inning. But the Pioneers quickly answered back by tying the score at 7-7 with a run in the 7th inning. Antelope Valley backed that up with four runs in both the 8th and 9th innings, to cruise to victory. Matt Majher finished with two of the team's six hits, including a homerun and two RBI's.
Friday, March 30
La Sierra – 4, UAV – 15
The Golden Eagles were playing catch-up for the whole game, behind 15 runs and 19 hits from the Pioneers. Craig Woolson, Josh Jubile, and Majher each finished with two hits apiece. Each of the three also notched an RBI in the loss, with Trevor Resler adding an RBI of his own. Despite 12 hits, the Golden Eagles scored just four runs while stranding a total of eight runners.
La Sierra – 9, UAV – 13
In the final game of the series, La Sierra outhit the Pioneers 18-16, but still fell by a final of 13-9. Antelope Valley scored in all but three innings. The Golden Eagles cut the lead to 8-7 at one point but were outscored 5-2 over the last four innings. Four different players tallied three hits, for La Sierra (Andrew Lundstrom, Jake Taylor, Jonny Salinas, and Majher). Majher finished the game with two homeruns and six RBI's.
The Golden Eagles are on the road this coming weekend with a 3-game series scheduled at Providence Christian College. In their first meeting this season, La Sierra won one of the three games, played at the beginning of March. The two teams are scheduled to play three games this coming Thursday and Friday.
La Sierra – 4, Marymount – 12
In their only loss of the series, the Golden Eagles saw their brief 3-1 lead erased by a 10-run 3rd inning by the Mariners. Camacho who was going for her third win of the series, was charged with the loss giving up four runs, two earned, on three hits through two innings of work. Roe finished with two of the team's five hits.
The team will host the University of Antelope Valley this coming weekend, on Friday and Sunday, for 4-game conference series.
