Volleyball Extends Win Streak with Wins Over PUC and Merced

Riverside, Calif. - The women's volleyball team picked up two more Cal Pac wins this weekend, and extended their winning streak to seven straight wins. With the win, the Golden Eagles reached the .500 mark, at 10-10 overall, and pushed their Cal Pac record to 5-2. On Friday afternoon, the team defeated Pacific Union College, 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-19), then followed that win with a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-19, 25-15) over the University of California – Merced, on Saturday night.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead over the Golden Eagles, by squeaking out a win in Set 1. It was La Sierra who survived a set-point, which would have put them in a 2-0 deficit, then rattled off the final three points of Set 2, to steal the win and tie the match at 1-1. The Golden Eagles then went on to win the final two sets in comfortable fashion.

As a team, La Sierra outhit the Pioneers, .298 to .191. While each team finished with 18 attack errors, the Golden Eagles had a 66-45 advantage in total kills. Kiana Krumm led the way with 20 kills and an attack percentage of .405. Ashlin Orosco added 18 kills, while Veronica Ramirez contributed 14 kills in the match.

Three Golden Eagles players had double-digit digs, led by Emily Morgan's 22 digs. Krumm added 19 digs, and setter Angala Jensen notched 12 digs to go along with her 58 assists.

La Sierra def UC Merced, 3-0

The Golden Eagles cruised to victory over the Bobcats, with the help of 11 service aces, among other statistical advantages. In a match that lasted just over an hour, it was Krumm who once again led the team with 11 kills, and was the only Golden Eagles player to reach the double-digit mark in kills.

Angala Jensen had 34 assists, and Emily Morgan finished with 15 digs. Josephine Su'a had three of the team's 11 services aces, with Kyrsti Photias, Krumm, and Jensen accounting for two service aces each.

After playing four matches this past week, the team will now have a week off between matches. La Sierra will travel to the University of Antelope Valley, next Saturday night, for a Cal Pac match versus the Pioneers who are currently 3-18 on the season, with a 3-4 mark in the conference.
