Golden Eagles Drop Both Games at Triple Crown Tournament

The Golden Eagles softball team played the first day of the Triple Crown Tournament, hosted by Hope International University. The team played games on the afternoon, falling to Hope International, 7-0, and Arizona Christian University, 5-3. The losses drop the team's record to 1-3 on the season.

HIU def. La Sierra, 7-0

In what was a pitcher's duel through the first four innings of play, the Royals broke the game open with four runs in the 5thinning and added two more runs in the 6th. La Sierra's offense was held in check, as the Royals pitching gave up just three hits in the game. Arianna Rivas led the Golden Eagles with a 2-for-2 performance, accounting for two of the team's three hits.

ACU def. La Sierra, 5-3

The Firestorm scored two runs in the 2ndand 3rdinnings to take an early 4-0 lead. La Sierra answered with two runs in the top of the 4th, but gave a run back in the bottom half of the inning. Arizona Christian would hold on for the victory, in a game where the Golden Eagles were held to just three hits for the second straight game.

Taylor Ross, Taylor Brooks, and Alexis Miranda each picked up a hit for the Golden Eagles, while the team capitalized on two Firestorm errors.

As of the posting of this recap, Saturday and Sunday's scheduled games were ultimately cancelled due to rain and the playable fields at the Rosetta Canyon Sports Park. The team is scheduled to travel to the University of St. Katherine, on Friday, February 15, for their next contests.
