The women's basketball season ended this past weekend with losses at Simpson University and the University of California – Merced. On Thursday, the Golden Eagles fell 67-74 to Simpson University. The team then traveled to Merced, on Saturday night, where they dropped the season finale by a final of 56-77. The women's basketball team finished the season with a record of 3-11 in Cal Pac play (6-21 overall).
A late run by the Red Hawks propelled them to victory over the Golden Eagles. The game started with Simpson jumping out to a 24-12 lead after one quarter of play. La Sierra was able to shave two points off of the lead by the halftime break but gave them back in the third quarter where they were outscored 14-9. The Golden Eagles made a push in the final quarter but came up short when the Red Hawks held on for the win.
Alexis Davis led all players with 21 points to go along with seven rebounds. Arianna Sheehy notched 15 points, while Octavia Williams tallied 14 points in the loss. The Red Hawks capitalized on a 38-26 rebounding advantage, including a 14-4 advantage in offensive rebounds.
Saturday night, the team travelled to Merced where they two teams played even, 15-15, through the first quarter. But the Bobcats outscored the Golden Eagles 28-11 in the second quarter and never looked back.
The two seniors, Davis and Sheehy, finished their careers by scoring a matching 19 points each. Davis was one rebound shy of a double-double.
