Golden Eagles Drop Cal Pac Opener to Marymount

Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles baseball team opened Cal Pac play this Friday, at home, against Marymount University. The Mariners scored seven runs over the final five innings of play to take a 7-4 decision over the Golden Eagles. Friday's game was the first game of a three-game series between the two teams. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 0-1 in Cal Pac play (4-6 overall).

It was La Sierra who took the early 2-0 lead with runs in the bottom half of the third and fourth innings. But the Mariners quickly erased the lead with two runs in the fifth inning, backed up by two more runs in the sixth inning, taking a 4-2 lead. They pushed the lead to 7-2, heading in to the bottom half of the ninth, before the Golden Eagles scored their final two runs of the game to trim the lead to 7-4.

Andrew Lundstrom picked up two more hits on the season. He also scored three of the team's four runs and picked up an RBI on the other run. Joining Lundstrom with two hits was Kash Mattson, and Art Felix. Mattson also notched an RBI in the loss.

The Mariners outhit the Golden Eagles by a slim 10-9 margin, with the Golden Eagles capitalizing on two Marymount errors.

The Mariners Matthew Blandeburgo pitched seven innings to pick up the win, while La Sierra's Jacob Bretch was charged with the loss.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon, for a doubleheader, starting at 11am.
