Mesa, Ariz. - After last weekend's Cal Pac series, with Simpson University. was rained out, the Golden Eagles were back in action as they traveled to Benedictine University – Mesa this weekend. La Sierra played two games of the 3-game series on Friday afternoon, falling 22-1, in Game 1, and dropping a 6-1 decision, in Game 2, of the doubleheader. On Sunday, the two teams concluded their weekend series, with the Redhawks completing a series sweep with a 15-5 win. The three losses drop the team's record to 0-6 in conference play and 4-11 overall.
Game 1: Benedictine def. La Sierra, 22-1
The Redhawks used a dominating performance in the first game of the series, outhitting the Golden Eagles 19-4. It was the Golden Eagles who got on the board first with their lone run of the game score in the top of the 1stinning, on a triple by Kash Mattson that scored Josh Jubile. Benedictine wasted no time taking control of the game as they scored eight runs in the first inning, followed by six runs in each of the next two innings. La Sierra collected two of their four hits in the first inning of play and two hits in the 7thand final inning of the game.
Game 2: Benedictine def. La Sierra, 6-1
The second game was a tighter affair, compared to Game 1, but the Redhawks scored six runs on 13 hits to sweep the doubleheader. The Golden Eagles were held to one run and five hits, with Mattson leading the team with a 2-for-4 game, along with the lone RBI in the game.
Game 3: Benedictine def. La Sierra, 15-5
The Redhawks completed the series sweep with 15-5 win in Sunday's single game finale. Benedictine never trailed in the game as they took the early 4-0 lead, with four runs in the 2ndinning, and never looked back. After pushing their lead to 7-1, the Golden Eagles made a run, with two runs in the 6thinnings, followed by two more runs in the 7th, cutting the lead to 7-5, but that would prove to be as close as La Sierra would get to salvaging one game in the series.
Mattson stayed hot at the plate, picking up another two hits on the afternoon, while Jubile also notched two hits of his own and led the team with two RBI's. Justin Wear, Michael Moy, and Nick Salinas each contributed a hit and an RBI in the game, with Alex Ogletree and Justin Shields accounting for the other two hits, of he Golden Eagles nine total hits.
The baseball team is back in action, next weekend, when they return home, to host the University of Antelope Valley, for a 3-game series. The two teams will play a single game on Friday (12pm), followed by a Sunday doubleheader, starting at 11am.
