Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader, versus Manhattanville College, Thursday afternoon. The Valiants took Game 1, 11-7 and followed that game up with a 10-1 win in Game 2. The losses drop the team's record to 6-10 on the season.
Game 1: Valiants def. La Sierra, 11-7
The Valiants scored seven of their 11 runs in the first two innings to take an early 7-2 lead, but the Golden Eagles scored five runs in the bottom half of the third inning, tying the game at 7-7. The game remain tied until the final winning when the Valiants struck for four runs to pull out the victory.
Manhattanville outhit the Golden Eagles 16-11. Taylor Brooks, Kallie Sorenson, and Jenna Murphy each tallied two hits in the loss.
Game 2: Valiants def. La Sierra, 10-1
The second game of the doubleheader was a dominating win for the Valiants who scored eight of their 10 runs in the 1stinning of play. They doubled up the Golden Eagles in hits by a margin of 14-7. Sorenson picked up two more hits and collected the only RBI for the team, while Taylor Ross and Brandi Almaraz also picked up two hits apiece.
The team will take the next off for final exams before returning to the field on March 26 for their next contest. The team will travel to #7 Hope International University for a non-conference doubleheader, starting at 12pm.
