Riverside, Calif. - A week after dropping their first match of the season, the women's soccer team bounced back with a convincing, 4-1, win over San Diego Christian College. Wednesday's non-conference win pushed the Golden Eagles record to 2-1 on the season. The team will have their first road test of the season, in two weeks, for their next scheduled match.
Andrea Sida and Nadia Cordova had an efficient match with eight of their combined nine total shots, finding the goal. Cordova was a perfect 4-of-4, while Sida contributed five shots with four shots-on-goal.
Citlalli Pedraza, Nadia Cordova, and Marissa Gonzalez each finished the match with three points apiece, as they each notched a goal and an assist in the victory.
The Golden Eagles started the scoring, in the 26thminute, with a goal by Citlalli Pedraza (assisted by Cordova and Marissa Gonzalez). It was the only goal scored in the first half of play.
A determined Hawks team took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity in the opening minutes of the second half, to tie the score at 1-1. But the Golden Eagles answered back with three unanswered goals to seal the victory. Pedraza repaid Cordova with an assist, as the two switched roles, in what proved to be the game-winning goal. Just six minutes later, Marissa Gonzalez scored on a feed from Savannah Aborqui, in the 66th minute, before Maisie Franklin scored another insurance goal, in the 88thminute, unassisted.
Next Up: The women's soccer team will now have a couple of weeks to prepare for their first road match of the season. The Golden Eagles will travel to Pomona-Pitzer College, on Thursday, September 12, for a non-conference match. It will be the first-ever match between the two programs.
