Volleyball Rebounds After Slow Start to Defeat Westcliff

Riverside, Calif. - After dropping the first set, the Golden Eagles answered back by winning the next three sets, to defeat Westcliff University, 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-22). The women's volleyball team improved to 6-3 on the season with the non-conference win. La Sierra has three non-conference matches remaining before opening conference play on September 20, against Benedictine University.

The Warriors jumped to an early 7-1 lead in the opening set and never looked back. They had the Golden Eagles on their heels in the second set as well, with a 20-15 lead in the latter half of Set 2. But the Golden Eagles put together a 6-1 run to tie the score at 21-21 before eventually pulling out the set victory.

La Sierra used a .304 attack percentage, their highest of the match, in Set 3, to take a 2-1 lead before closing things out in Set 4 with a late run.

The Golden Eagles pulled out the victory despite finishing the match with four less kills, 43-47 than the Warriors. Outside hitter Kiana Krumm was the only Golden Eagles player to finish in double-digits, in the kill category, with 12 kills in the match (.300). Veronica Ramirez was close behind with a total of nine kills, while Mariah Morris and Adiva Joseph adding eight kills and seven kills, respectively.

Setter Angala Jensen finished with 31 assists along with six of the team's 50 total digs. Kyrsti Photias led the team with 14 digs, while Trinity Wyscarver added nine digs and Ayana Felton and Krumm each added eight digs of their own.

Next Up: After playing five straight home matches, the Golden Eagles will head back out on the road for two non-conference neutral site matches at the Toro Classic, hosted by California State University Dominguez Hills. On Friday, September 6, La Sierra will face Notre Dame de Namur University (11am) and Academy of Art University (4pm).
