Temecula, Calif. – Women's Soccer picked up a win in their Cal Pac opener against University of Saint Katherine (1-4-1) with a 2-0 victory over the Firebirds.
After a back and forth battle, the Golden Eagles' Goalkeeper, Ashley Villagrana sent the ball deep, bouncing over the Firebirds back line, where Alyssa Felix made a great run on the ball, connecting for a goal in the bottom corner, putting the Golden Eagles up 1-0 at the 40-minute mark. With only minutes left in the first half of the match, the Golden Eagles continued their attack, firing three more shots, but weren't able to convert, ending the half.
Just over 17 minutes into the second half, the Golden Eagles struck again with a spectacular snipe off the foot of Savannah Aborqui, from 30 yards out, rippling the back of the net and putting the Golden Eagles up, 2-0, where the scoreboard would stay until the final whistle.
The Golden Eagles had a total of 10 shots on goal and only allowed the Firebirds four. Ashley Villagrana was credited with four saves on the day.
