Merced, Calif. – The La Sierra University Men's Soccer season has come to a close after a unique 2020-2021 campaign, created by the COVID pandemic.
The Golden Eagles stayed focused through adversity, qualifying for the Semifinals of the California Pacific Conference Championships against the Bobcats of UC Merced in Merced, California.
Over the first 45 minutes, the Bobcats (7-0) dominated the match in every aspect except the score, a testament to a determined and aggressive Golden Eagles defense. In the first half, UCM put up 17 shots, 12 on goal but Goalkeeper Javier Lopez and the defensive line surrendered just one score, which came in the 10th minute when Rodolfo Prado headed in a corner kick off the boot of Jimmy Lorenti.
UCM's constant battering eventually wore down the Golden Eagles defense and the shot pace continued and scoring picked up. UCM got off 10 more shots in the second half, five on goal and produced two more goals. In the 54th minute, after a Golden Eagles hand ball in the box, Ricky Rosas slotted a penalty kick into the lower right corner of the net. The final goal came in the 60th minute when Andres Lua punched one in off assists from Rosas and Prado. - Cal Pac Website
