Golden Eagles take home Gold

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Golden Eagles hosted their annual cross country meet at La Sierra University on Friday, October 14 at 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. La Sierra competed against Pacific Union College and Norco College on the campus of La Sierra University.

The women's team ran first completing a 5K before the men ran their 8K through the hillside campus.

The women were led by Alma Ramirez who finished first in the race. Alma, also known as Almond Milk on the team, took off strong and never faltered. She kept the lead throughout the whole race, which brought her the gold medal. Sophomore Alexa Martinez, also known as Cranberry Sauce amongst her teammates, finished third in the race, earning herself the bronze medal. Sam Montero and Sophia Gil were close behind, finishing the race as strong as they started.

Ryan Hernandez finished as La Sierra's top runner on the men's side. Soon after Matthew Castro and Nito Gil crossed the finish line racing neck and neck to come in before the competition. Close behind Dominic Meza and Quinton Brown legged it out to finish their race. The men proved themselves as great competitors by having to complete two tough up hill stretches. All the men finished in the top 15 on the day.

Up Next: The Cross Country teams travel to the John Elders Titan Invite Friday, October 21 for women to compete at 5 p.m. and men to compete at 5:30 p.m.
