Riverside, Calif. – La Sierra University Women's Volleyball takes Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Prescott, Ariz.) to five sets in 3-2 loss (25-17. 22-25, 25-21, 26-28, 14-16).
The Golden Eagles came out victorious in the first set for the second match in a row. After dropping the first point, the Golden Eagles never trailed. La Sierra reached this victory only committing two errors while their opponent committed 11.
La Sierra kept this spark going into the second set by taking an early 9-5 lead. ERAU proved they wanted it just the same with the set including 11 ties and 15 one-point differentials. The two teams were knotted at 22-22 before the set went in favor of Embry-Riddle.
Golden Eagles came out on top in the third set leaving Embry-Riddle hungry for a win in the fourth. The fourth set again showcased the two teams going toe-to-toe for a victory with 6 lead changes and neither team trailing more than three points.
Embry-Riddle pushed La Sierra to a fifth set with another nail biter ultimately going in favor of the visitors.
La Sierra out hit Embry-Riddle on the day .210 to .188 with senior, Michele Mendizabal, setting a match high of 21 kills. Ayana Felton also produced a strong 11 kills and 14 digs. Transfers Torri Lambert and Verenice Gonzales brought in 12 and 6 kills respectively.
Keeley Meka and Brittani Bentley had season highs of 27 and 18 assists.
