Riverside, Calif. - Women's Volleyball took on University of Antelope Valley Thursday night to come away with their first win of the season (25-23, 25-14, 26-24). Women's Volleyball came back to face University of Saint Katherine for a Friday afternoon match (14-25, 22-25, 20-25).
Alexis Suksdorf scored a team-high 14.0 points off 13 kills and one solo block in the victory of Antelope Valley. The team totaled 38 kills on the match with Verenice Gonzalez and Torri Lambert with 7 kills apiece, Amaya Thomas adding 5 kills, Keeley Meka with 4 kills, and Sarah Garcia with 2.
Meka added 29 assists and one solo block. Thomas also came away from the game with a solo block.
In Friday's match, Suksdorf again came away with a team-high 14.5 points off 13 kills for a hitting percentage of .458 and three blocks. Lambert added 6 kills and 4 blocks, Garcia and Gonzalez with 4 kills apiece, and Meka walked away with 3 kills and 2 blocks with 23 assists.
Suksdorf led both matches with the game-high kills at 13.
The Golden Eagles provided fans with a high intensity match against St. Katherine's trading points back and forth. The Firebirds came into the match 6-0, but the Golden Eagles gave them a run for their money with 14 score ties and 8 lead changes across the three sets.
The second set continues to be the Golden Eagles break away set as they led the Firebirds 15-10, until Mckenna Clugston subbed on to serve to tie the match up 15-15. After more back and forth, the Firebirds were able to come away with the match, but not after the Golden Eagles battled back.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles are on the road Thursday, September 28 against Westcliff University at 7:00 pm, and then come home Friday, September 29 against Providence Christian College at 3:00 pm.
