Baseball Sweeps in Home Opener

Riverside - The Golden Eagles faced Nobel University in their 2024 season Home Opener. The Baseball team swept the double header from the Knights in 12-1 and 6-5 victories.

In game one, the Golden Eagles added 12 runs on 12 hits with 12 RBIs. Eric Celis dominated on the mound with 6.0 innings pitched with 6 strikeouts only allowing for one earned run. Centerfielder Colin Mitchell went 3 for 3 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs. Gabriel Jones knocked in 5 runs off of three hits. Designated hitter Bobby Benavidez also crossed the plate 3 times. 

Pinch hitter Anthony Thomas came up twice in the bottom of the 6th to set the foundation for the Golde Eagles 7 run rally. His two run homer came at the top of the inning, and his single to center field to score Mariscal started and ended the high scoring inning.

The Golden Eagles struck first with an RBI single from Mitchell to score Benavidez in the bottom of the first. The go ahead run came in the second inning with a solo homerun from Mariscal.

Game two secured another Golden Eagle win with some late game excitement. Moving with some of the momentum from game one, the Golden Eagles came out quick scoring their 6 runs in the first three innings. The Knights weren't going down without a fight scoring their 5 runs in the last three innings of the seven inning matchup.

Nico Masucci, Kyle Schelling, Jerald Pryor, Alva Banuelos, and Jacob Gudino all got their foot on the mound to contribute to the Golden Eagle victory. Shortstop Stephen Chavez went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run. Benavidez, Mitchell, Jones, Nate Martinez, and Isaac Andrade were the other Golden Eagle runs.

The Baseball team heads into conference play with a record of 5-5.
