RIVERSIDE - La Sierra Softball faced Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for a four game series over the weekend. In game three, softball ended the Eagles perfect season with a 2-1 win. The Golden Eagles took one of the four games from ERAU.
Shelbie Debenedetti pitched a complete game win, only allowing 6 hits with 2 strikeouts. The Golden Eagles picked up their runs in the bottom of the third and the bottom of the fourth.
Alexis Cook led off the third inning with a double one hopping the fence. A sac bunt from Annica Carrion advanced Cook to third base. Danielle Pfennig executed a perfect squeeze to score Cook from third.
Jaelyn Guiterrez led off the fourth inning with a single to right field. She advanced to second on a miss play by the Embry-Riddle right fielder. Lidia Flores took first base after being hit by a pitch. Kayla Salley came in to pinch run for Flores. Pitcher Debenedetti bunted for a single to score Guitterrez for the Golden Eagles go ahead run.
ERAU came to score in the top of the 6th to put pressure on La Sierra, but Debenedetti and the Golden Eagles defense remained perfect to close out the game.
The Golden Eagles saw four hits from Cook, Pfennig, Guiterrez, and Debenedetti. RBIs came from Pfennig and Debenedetti. Sacrifices came from Carrion, Pfennig, and Raeanna Garcia.
Game one of the series saw four hits from Cook, Pfennig, Samantha Laird, and Liliana Rodriguez. Hanna Dobbs and Christina Pierce had a combined 3 strikeouts. Game two saw hits from Guiterrez and Garcia, and a sacrifice from Carrion. Game four saw hits from Cook, Jocelyn Gomez, Madison Randall, and Flores. Siobhan Sandoval picked up 2 RBIs.
Softball hosts University of Saint Katherine for a four game series April 19 and April 21 for their final games at home. First pitch for both double headers takes place at 11 am.
