RIVERSIDE - La Sierra women's volleyball faced The Master's University in their 2024 season home opener. After a thrilling first set, the Golden Eagles fell to the Mustangs in a 3-0 match.
Set scores were 20-25, 8-25 and 10-25.
The Golden Eagles totaled 20 kills. Sakura Pangelinan led the Golden Eagles with 7 kills, followed by Alexis Suksdorf and Ariana Pedroza with 4 kills apiece. Torri Lambert walked away with 3 kills to start the year.
Lindsay Delgadillo totaled 18 of the Golden Eagles 19 assists. La Sierra also came up with 4 block assists and one block solo.
The Golden Eagles recorded their most kills in set one with 13, and committed the least amount of errors with only two in set three.
La Sierra put up a competitive match against the Mustangs in the first set. The Golden Eagles held the lead through their first four points of the match. The Mustangs slowly took the lead, but La Sierra kept the Mustangs on their toes battling back on each rally.
The Master's had a clean breakaway in the second set going on a 6-point and 7-point runaway.
The start of the third set was met with long, electrifying rallies. Both teams made some incredible saves to keep the rally going. The Master's went home with the match win, but the Golden Eagles showed outstanding talent.
La Sierra is next set to face Occidental College away on Tuesday, August 20 at 12:00 pm. Then they face Arizona Christian University at 8:00 am and Life Pacific College at 12:00 pm on Friday, August 23 at the Hope International Summer Slam at the Darling Pavilion.
