Golden Eagles Draw Tie in Second Half Thriller

RIVERSIDE - La Sierra women's soccer returned home to face Soka University for a Tuesday evening rainy day match. The Golden Eagles and the Lions each scored two goals to end the match in a draw.

La Sierra's two goals came late in the second half of play. A Soka foul to Gia Aldama at the 17 set La Sierra to get themselves on the board. Isabella Iniguez stepped up to take the free kick and fired with her right past the goalkeeper to cut the Lions lead in half. About three minutes later, La Sierra netted their second goal. A cross from Elaina Gonzalez to Yazmina Guerrero allowed Guerrero to make an attempt on goal, but the Lions goalkeeper got her foot on it to knock it away. Samantha Torres stayed in the mix, and played the ball off the save to even the score.

La Sierra had two more corner kicks in the remaining eight minutes of play, but were unable to convert any to goals. Soka scored a goal in each half of the game.

In goal, Ali Razon totaled two saves, both coming from the first half. The Golden Eagles defense only allowed Soka three shots in the second half.

The Golden Eagles continue the week at home with a match Thursday, October 16 at 5:00 p.m. against Hope International University. La Sierra is dedicating this match to Breast Cancer Awareness Month and will be hosting a canned/non-perishable food drive.
