Golden Eagles Pick Up First GSAC Win

RIVERSIDE - La Sierra women's soccer earned their first win in the GSAC with a shut out against Life Pacific University, 2-0.

Gia Aldama answered the call for the Golden Eagles scoring her first goal of the season 24 minutes into play. Off the assist from Samantha Torres, Aldama was able to drive the ball past the Warriors goalie.

Captain Elaina Gonzalez offered an insurance run for women's soccer with a second half header off the long cross from Tianna Breshears. The two goals cemented the win for the Golden Eagles.

In goal, Ali Razon picked up her second shutout of the season with 6 saves in the goal.

Senior Monserrath Arellano-Ayala had five crucial defensive saves that contributed to the Golden Eagles success. Two saves came from the first half. Two back to back goal line saves came in the 70th minute of play which prevented the Warriors from tying the game. A corner kick drew Razon out from the goal, Arellano-Ayala took to the line to block two powerful shots on goal to keep the Golden Eagles lead. She held another defensive save late in the game to help keep the shutout.

The Warriors came out competitive in the first half keeping control of the field for the majority of the first half. The tides shifted with Aldama's goal, and the Golden Eagles gained authority of the game. The Golden Eagles offered 8 shots with three on goal throughout the game.

Women's soccer is next set to face The Master's University at home on Thursday, September 25th at 5:00 p.m.
