Golden Eagles Take Down Mustangs in Second Half Thriller

RIVERSIDE - La Sierra men's soccer continue to dominate the season securing another win against The Master's University at home.

Sean Palena's two goals proved to be the deciding factor for the Golden Eagles. Palena now totals 9 goals in his last four games. He also adds his second game winner of the year.

The thrilling match provided intensity from both sides of the field. With the game at a draw in the half, both teams were looking for the win. In the first half, La Sierra only saw four shots to the Mustangs seven. Abraham Perez added four big saves to keep TMU down to the half.

The Mustangs were only able to get off three shots in the second half with one being the goal. Perez added an additional save to his stat line.

Palena scored early on in the second half off a cross from Damian Jimenez. The perfectly placed ball allowed for Palena to head it past the goalie. The Mustangs were quick to tie the game just four minutes later and the pressure was back on. A foul from The Master's allowed for a free kick in favor of the Golden Eagles. Palena stepped up for the kick, sending the ball into the goal.  Now up 2-1, the Golden Eagles continued to be aggressive on the field.

Rodrick Promis saw his first goal of the year on a breakaway from the 18 putting up an extra insurance goal for the Golden Eagles with Palena dishing out the assist. Ulises Morales had a banger of his own to solidify the Golden Eagles win.

Captain Jose Alcala had an opportunity off a corner kick, but a Mustang defender saved the ball on the goal line. Vinicius Goncalves and Carlos Leon also offered attempts on goal as well.

The Golden Eagles defensive line of Christopher Aceves, Alberto Perez, and Alcala contribute to holding the Mustangs to one. The team's ability to work together offensively and defensively have added to La Sierra's success on the field.

La Sierra men's soccer is next set to face Hope International University Tuesday, September 30th at 4:30 p.m. at Great Park Stadium in Irvine.
