Golden Eagles Head to Overtime with Park

MESA, Ariz. - La Sierra University men's basketball head to overtime with Park University Gilbert on Tuesday, January 13th. The Golden Eagles fell to the Buccaneers 87-84 in one play of overtime.

La Sierra led at the half, 39-34, before the Buccaneers came back to time the match at 78 at the end of regulation play. Overtime play began and the Golden Eagles were only able to net 6 points against Park's 9 to fall by three in a thrilling conference match.

The Golden Eagles got on the board first with a made layup by Maur Tablada. Park had a short scoring run to lead 13-4. Godfrey Little sank a three-pointer to even the score at 13 all. Play continued with Park jumping ahead, but La Sierra tied the game three more times. A made free throw from Caleb Tinker tied the game at 28, and the Golden Eagles took the lead in the final 5 minutes of the first half.

The second half saw La Sierra taking control to lead with a 12 point advantage. A burst of energy from Park in the last 8 minutes intensified the level of play. With the Golden Eagles leading by three in the last 30 seconds, Park was running out of chances. In the final 5 seconds, the Buccaneers netted a three and the half ended in a tie.

An early foul in overtime allowed Park to take the lead on two made free throws. Despite valiant efforts from the Golden Eagles, Park led throughout overtime and ended with the victory. Mateo Hamilton scored three of the six overtime points, and Jasper Reinalda scored the final three.

Reinalda continues to be a shining star for La Sierra, scoring a game high of 29 points. He also had a game high of 20 rebounds with 3 assists and 2 blocks. Tablada and Little also contributed with 15 and 16 points respectively. Hamilton and Makael Reynolds both put up 7 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles are next set to face Embry Riddle Aeronautical University on Thursday, January 15th at 6:00 p.m. PST in Prescott, Ariz.
