Kevin Mitchell

Kevin Mitchell joined the La Sierra University Athletic Department as the Women’s Head Basketball Coach in 2017, after serving two years on the men’s side as the Associate Head Coach.

During the 2019-2020 season, Mitchell and his coaching staff were vital in the development of several student-athletes who went on to receive Cal Pac honors, including “1st Team All-Conference & Co-Newcomer of the Year” (Kayla De Leon), “2nd Team All-Conference” (Madelyn Moya) and “All-Conference Honorable Mention” (Siena Jones).

In 2020, Mitchell secured the conference’s, “Coach of the Year” award, in part for leading the team to an appearance at the Cal Pac Championship Tournament with an overall record of 16-13 (the most NAIA wins in Golden Eagle History).

Mitchell has a plethora of coaching experience, most recently working as a skills coach with Pure Sweat Basketball, where he assisted with the NBA pre-draft and off-season workouts with players such as Jayson Tatum, Bradley Beal, Zach Lavine, Gordon Hayward, Jordan Clarkson and Joel Embiid, amongst others. Mitchell has also coached numerous youth basketball programs such as, Gamepoint Basketball (Adidas Grassroots), Triple Threat Basketball and was a varsity assistant with both Rancho Verde High School and Rancho Christian High School (Calif.).

Mitchell played college basketball under former NBA player, John Block at Bethany College in Scotts Valley, California, where he studied Business. Mitchell returned to school during his tenure with Kaiser Permanente and received a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix (2010).

Mitchell is very active in the community, helping host the annual Riverside County Young Adult Holiday Celebration at La Sierra University in partnership with the Riverside Department of Public Services (DPSS). Mitchell also participates in Native Vision Summer Camps, led by Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health, empowering youth to succeed through sports and life skills.

Mitchell lives in the Inland Empire with his spouse and four children.
