Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Suffers First Home Loss Of Season

Riverside, CA - With a 10-game winning streak and a mini four-game win streak on the line, the Golden Eagles were unable to extend the streaks after a four set loss to #17 Westmont College, 25-27, 25-19, 25-15, 25-15.

The match was reminiscent of a match, back on September 6, played at Westmont, which the Warriors won in four sets. The match started in a similar fashion, with the Golden Eagles taking the first set. After squandering an early lead, the Golden Eagles were able to pull out the set victory. But after that, it was all Warriors.

In Sets 2 and 3, the Golden Eagles struggled with slow start, allowing the Warriors to take complete control of the set and the match.

La Sierra's three hitters, (Lina Semaia, Lupe Garcia, and Robyn Miller), each finished with 10 kills in the match. Setter Colleen Stafford tallied 31 assists and 11 digs, while Chantel Washington led the team in digs with 16. Johanna Tope also added 11 digs of her own.

The Warriors' Jessica McCann led all players with 15 kills and libero Kami Troesh also led all players with 24 digs in the match.

Tonight was the first of five straight home matches. So after suffering their first home loss of the season, the Golden Eagles will look to start another streak this coming weekend as they dive back into Cal Pac Conference play.

La Sierra will host Simpson University this Friday afternoon, at 3pm, in the first game of a back-to-back. On Saturday night, William Jessup will visit, with the match scheduled to start at 8:30pm. The Golden Eagles will be looking to sweep the season series in both matches, after defeating both teams in mid-September on their tour of northern California.
