San Marcos, Calif. - The men's soccer team fell just short in a 2-1 loss at California State University – San Marcos this afternoon.
After the Cougars took a 1-0, with a goal in the 23rd minute by Thor English, the Golden Eagles were able to answer back with the equalizer in the 34th minute. Kenny Bonanken scored on a feed from Edgar Padilla to send both teams into the halftime break, tied 1-1.
The two teams remained tied until San Marcos scored the game-winner in the 68th minute. Although San Marcos was limited to just two shots-on-goal in the second half, the goal by Sullivan Tobin proved to be enough.
La Sierra was unable to capitalize on a few great scoring chances in the final minutes, dropping their record to 4-7 on the season.
The team will jump back into Cal Pac Conference play, next Tuesday, when they travel to Marymount University. The Mariners are currently 6-0 in Cal Pac play and lead the Cal Pac South Division with 18 points. The Golden Eagles will look to improve on their 3-2 Cal Pac record and stay in the playoff hunt.
