Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Opens Season on the Road

The women's volleyball team opened the 2014 season with three losses at the Asics/Wyndham Labor Day Tournament, hosted by Concordia University (Irvine, Calif.).

The first match of the day was a tightly played contest, against Hope International University (22-25, 23-25, 25-22, 23-25).

The second of the three matches was a 3-set loss to The Master's College (16-25, 28-30, 16-25).

The third match, versus Montana Tech University, was played back-to-back to the second. But unfortunately, the match had to be suspended in the fourth set due to sundown (25-21, 13-25, 19-25, 13-17).

As a Seventh-day Adventist institution, institutional policy prohibits any play and/or practice from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. Upon receiving the tournament schedule, there were repeated requests by the La Sierra coaching staff and athletic administration to have the start time of the final match moved to an earlier start time, but unfortunately it was decided to keep the schedule intact.

The 2014 team has many new faces, so with any relatively new team the more matches they play will definitely benefit them in their development as a team. This squad will learn from their season opening tournament and move on to the next challenge.

They have a busy week ahead, with a match at Westmont College on Tuesday, September 2, followed by a weekend tournament at Vanguard University on Friday, September 5.
