Riverside, Calif. - The men's soccer team picked their second win of the season, in a dominating 3-1 victory over Cal State Maritime. With the win, the Golden Eagles (2-6 overall, 2-2 Cal Pac) also picked up their second Cal Pac Conference win of the season.
La Sierra accounted for all four goals scored on the afternoon; unfortunately the first goal of the match was an own goal that gave the Keelhaulers a 1-0 lead that they would carry into the halftime break.
The Golden Eagles were unable to capitalize on numerous scoring chances in the first half of play. Edgar Padilla finally broke through with the equalizer in the 63rd minute.
La Sierra took the lead on a goal by Joseph Fernandez, on an assist by Padilla, in the 67th minute. Padilla added an insurance goal in the 69th minute, scoring five points on the afternoon, with two goals and one assist.
The Golden Eagles dominated in virtually every statistical category. The team finished with a total 14 shots on goal, on 23 total shots. In comparison, the Keelhaulers tallied just two shots on goal, on three total shots.
The team will look to carry any momentum from today's match, into their conference match against Pacific Union College, on Sunday afternoon, at 12pm. The Pioneers are currently 0-2 on the season. Sunday's match will be their Cal Pac opener.
