La Mirada, Calif. - The Golden Eagles softball team fell to 0-8 on the season, after dropping two close games to Biola University, 5-4 and 7-5, on Friday afternoon.
In Game 1, La Sierra took the early lead two-run homerun by Melanie Vidaurri, in the third inning. The Golden Eagles added another run in the inning, taking advantage of three Biola errors in the inning, on a Genifer Garbellini sacrifice fly that scored Katie Witherby.
In the bottom half of the third inning, Biola answered back with two runs on two hits, cutting the Golden Eagles lead to 3-2.
La Sierra added a run in the top of the sixth inning, when the Golden Eagles loaded the bases with no outs but were able to only push the one run across the place on a RBI bunt single by Berlyn Benavides.
But in similar fashion to inning three, Biola was able to answer back by scoring three runs on five hits in their half of the sixth inning to steal the victory.
Game 2 was another come from behind win for Biola who trailed from the get go as La Sierra scored three runs in the first inning and added a run in the second, to take a 4-0 lead.
After Biola finally scored a run in their half of the third inning, the Golden Eagles got it right back in the fourth, on a RBI single by Witherby that scored Benavides for a 5-1 lead.
In comeback fashion, Biola tallied six runs in the final three innings to steal another victory and complete the doubleheader sweep of the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles scored five runs on seven hits, with all hits coming from seven different players.
In search of their first win of the season, La Sierra will turn the page and hit the field again on Sunday morning, when they host Whittier College. Sunday's doubleheader is scheduled for an 11am start.
