The baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader, on Friday afternoon, versus Oregon Institute of Technology, 3-1 and 25-6. The losses drop the team to 4-8 on the season.
Game 1 was a tightly contested game throughout. The Golden Eagles got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second inning.
The score remained 1-0, in favor of the Golden Eagles, until Oregon Tech took the lead with two runs in the fifth inning on a two-out single by Ethan Schlecht.
Oregon Tech scored another insurance run in the seventh, but they wouldn't need it. Starting pitcher Michael McCall pitched a complete game (7 innings) allowing one run on four hits, while collecting 10 strikeouts against only one walk.
Darrien Leal had a good outing, but came up on the short side of a complete game himself, giving up three runs on six hits, three walks and one strikeout.
Outfielder Davron Maxey had one of the four hits for the Golden Eagles, and tallied the lone RBI.
The Hustlin' Owls quickly took control of Game 2 and never looked back, scoring seven runs in the first three inning of play.
After the Golden Eagles cut the lead to 7-3, with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning. But Oregon Tech blew the game open with an 11-run fourth inning.
Oregon Tech scored all their runs in the first six innings, collecting 18 hits and 13 walks.
The Golden Eagles finished with six runs on 12 hits, which might prove to be enough on most days, but fell far short on this day.
Michael Gonzalez and Garret Larson each tallied two RBI's, going 2-for-4. Shortstop John Salinas also finished the game going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Matt Zurita added an RBI of his own with one hit in the game.
The team will be back in action on Sunday morning when they host Concordia University, for a doubleheader, starting at 11am.
