The #8 team in the nation, Concordia University swept yersterday's Softball doubleheader over the Golden Eagles, 6-18 (5-innings) and 2-15 (5-innings). This was the second time during the season Concordia sweeps doubleheader from Golden Eagles.
The Eagles took a commanding lead in the first inning by scoring 6 runs and never look back. Ferguson started things for the eagles during the first AB with a home run to center field on a 3-2 count. The eagles would score two more runs before ending the first inning strong with a 3 run home run from Hanna Howell. La Sierra would respond back during the first inning by scoring 4 runs and bringing the score 4-6 by the end of the 1st. Gurney came in to replace Harvey for Concordia after Harvey walked three Golden Eagles and two more were hit by pitch. Gurney closed the inning for the eagles but not before walking two more Golden Eagles.
Concordia scored three more runs in the 2nd, two in the 4th, and closed the game strong with 7 runs in the 5th. La Sierra scored two runs during the 4th inning. Dresser led Concordia with five RBI's, three hits and three runs. Howell added five RBI's, three runs and three hits for the eagles. Mercedes Gasparovic led the Golden Eagles with two RBI's and one run.
Game two started with La Sierra up by 2-0 by the end of the first. Concordia would regain control and scored in each inning after that. Dresser and Howell led Concordia for the second time with three RBI's and three hits each. Brianna Gutierrez had two RBI's and one hit for La Sierra, while Berlyn Benavides scored a run and got two hits.
La Sierra returns to action on Thursday March 5th vs William Jessup University with a 1pm start time.
