Golden Eagles Drop Two To Cougars

Riverside, Calif. - Cal State San Marcos took both games of today's doubleheader, 19-6 and 9-0, over the Golden Eagles. The two teams combined for 34 runs and 37 hits over the two games.

The Cougars took complete control of Game 1 by scoring 11 of their 19 runs in the first three innings of the game. San Marcos struck for seven runs in the second inning and four in the third. They tacked on six runs in the sixth inning, cruising their way to victory.

Antonio Lopez tallied two RBI's, while going 2-for-3 in the game. Matt Valenzuela went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Michael Gonzalez and Matt Zurita each added an RBI and two hits of their own.

San Marcos used a total of six pitchers in the game, with starter Emilio Esquibel going five innings to pick up the victory.

The Cougars, who outhit the Golden Eagles 9-3, dominated Game 2, holding La Sierra scoreless and allowing only three hits.

La Sierra drops to 6-27 on the season. They will now turn their sites to Tuesday, when they travel to Redding, California, to face Simpson University. The two teams will play four straight games with doubleheaders on Tuesday and Wednesday, before heading back home to host the University of Antelope Valley on Sunday to close the week out.
