Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles (2-1) volleyball team defeated the University of Redlands (2-3) tonight, in straight sets (27-25, 25-20, 25-23), to claim their second win on the season.
La Sierra pushed their way to victory, behind a game-high 10 kills from Samantha Marquez and nine kills each from Abby Latuhoi and Caitlin Marinos. The trio collected 28 of the Golden Eagles 43 kills. Smriti Sharma kept the offense rolling with 35 assists to go along with six digs and a block assist. Also notable, was Erin Miller who contributed six kills, on 17 attempts with no hitting errors (.353).
All three sets were tightly contested, but La Sierra seemed to be in control throughout the match. Despite 10 service errors on the night, the team notched nine service aces, compared to only two for the Bulldogs.
On the defensive side of the net, Emily Morgan led the team with 14 digs, with Maya Hanna adding 12 digs of her own.
The Bulldogs did finish with a clear advantage at the net with seven team blocks, while La Sierra had only two team blocks in the match.
Tonight's match was the home opener for the Golden Eagles. They will be back on the road, next Wednesday, when they travel to Vanguard University for a non-conference match.
