Costa Mesa, Calif. - The women's volleyball team dropped to 2-2 on the season, after falling to #9 Vanguard University (9-4) in straight sets (25-17,25-18,25-19). The Lions used a balanced attack and finished the match with a stellar hitting percentage of .322. Vanguard also controlled play at the net, compiling a total of 13 total blocks in the match.
While the Golden Eagles made some runs in each of the three sets, they were unable to keep pace with the No. 9 team in the nation. Despite the loss, Caitlin Marinos tallied a match-high 12 kills, to go along with seven digs. Samantha Marquez pitched in with 10 kills of her own, while Smriti Sharma led the offense wit 27 assists.
On the defensive end, Maya Hanna led the team with nine digs. Abby Latuhoi and Marquez led the Golden Eagles with two block assists each.
The team will now shift their focus to Providence Christian College, a new program that is set to join the Cal Pac Conference. The Sea Beggars are currently 1-15 in their inaugural season. This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs. Saturday's match will be played at Victory Park (Pasadena, Calif.), at 7pm.
