Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles women's basketball team cruised to their fourth win of the season, by defeating the California Institute of Technology, 66-41, on Saturday night. Chelsie Baham paced the team with 16 points, shooting 6-for-17 from the field, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles defense held the Beavers to just 4-of-24 shooting in the first half, and forced 26 turnovers.
La Sierra jumped out to an early 16-4 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 26-12 by the halftime break. Both teams opened things up in the second half with the Golden Eagles scoring a total of 40 points, compared to 29 points for the Beavers.
La Sierra out-rebounded Cal Tech 51-41, including 21-8 on the offensive boards.
Freshman guard Korie Siets had an efficient night with 10 points, on 5-of-9 shooting, and four rebounds. Kailee Maeda finished with seven points and seven assists, while Rachel Hahn and Alexis Davis also contributed seven points each. Davis additionally led the team with eight rebounds.
The women's basketball team will host #2 Westmont College (NAIA Division I), on Thursday evening, at 4pm. The Warriors are currently 12-1 on the season.
