Mesa, Ariz. – The Red Hawks of Benedictine University defeated the Golden Eagles in straight sets (25-17, 26-24, 25-14) on Friday, for their first Cal Pac loss this season. With the victory, the Red Hawks remain unbeaten in conference play at 5-0. It was the first Cal Pac match on the road for the Golden Eagles and their first road match after seven straight matches played at home.
The Red Hawks dominated the Golden Eagles with a .341 hitting percentage (41 kills, 10 errors, 91 attempts), compared to only .083 for La Sierra (32 kills, 23 errors, 108 attempts). They also controlled play at the net by with six team blocks (12 block assists) to La Sierra's three team blocks (one solo block and four block assists).
Kiana Krumm led the team with 11 kills, followed by Taylor Moran who contributed eight kills. Noelle Hamblin and Michele Mendizabal added six kills each.
Emily Morgan fnished with 18 digs, with Krumm tallying nine digs of her own. Setters Marissa Fregoso and Smriti Sharma finished the match with 16 assists and 13 assists, respectively.
The team will look to rebound tomorrow night when they travel to Prescott, Arizona, for another Cal Pac match against another undefeated Cal Pac team, in Embry-Riddle University. Embry-Riddle are the defending regular season Cal Pac Champions, but lost the Golden Eagles in the Cal Pac Championship tournament and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
