La Sierra Wins First Conference Game Of The Season

La Sierra University Baseball team beat Providence Christian College 9-7 on Saturday to earn its first Cal Pac Conference win of the season.

Game didn't start so well for the Golden Eagles as they were trailing by four runs at the end of two innings. The Sea Beggars score two runs on the first and added two more on the second. La Sierra responded quickly by scoring five runs on the third inning and added two more on the fifth to take a 7-4 lead on the Sea Beggars. Providence Christian wouldn't go down easily as they answered back with three runs of their own over the next two innings. Going into the ninth inning, the score was tied 7-7; La Sierra would score two runs to take the game 9-7.

La Sierra's offense had an impressive performance as they recorded 16 hits during the game with only four errors. Providence Christian finished the game with seven hits and seven errors.

Salinas and Uselton each recorded three hits for La Sierra. Zurita, and Gardena each added two hits and two RBI's for the Golden Eagles. Victor Mena came in and picked up the win for La Sierra. He gave up three hits and struck-out three people on two innings.

La Sierra is now 1-0 in Cal Pac and 3-5-1 overall while the Sea Beggars fall 0-4 in Cal Pac and 0-8 overall.

La Sierra will play PCC again on Friday February 12 with a 11:00am start.
