Golden Eagles Sweep The Red Hawks In Straight Sets

The Golden Eagles opened up their Cal Pac season with a comfortable win over Simpson University earlier today. La Sierra swept the Red Hawks in straight sets, 25-13, 25-22, and 25-13. Coming off an impressive win over The Master's College on Wednesday, the Golden Eagles took control of the game from the beginning. With the score 24-8 in the first set, the Red Hawks scored five straight points to bring the score 24-13; Kiana Krumm went on to record her fifth kill in the set to put La Sierra up 1-0 over Simpson University.

The Red Hawks started the second set very strong, taking an early 6-2 lead over the Golden Eagles and forcing head Coach Erin Sintek to take a timeout. La Sierra responded quickly by tying the game at 8-8 before taking the lead 10-9, the Golden Eagles held on to the lead and took set two 25-22.

The Red Hawks started the set strong and found themselves on top with a 9-8 lead over the Golden Eagles early on the set. It was the last time Simpson University led as La Sierra went on to scored 10 straight points to take the lead 17-9. The Golden Eagles finished the game strong as they took set three 25-13 and swept the Red Hawks in straight sets.

It was a very strong offensive performance from the Golden Eagles with 51 kills and only 12 errors on a .364 percentage. Kiana Krumm led La Sierra with 14 kills and 13 digs while hitting .375. Michele Mendizabal added nine kills with only one error. MB Taylor Moran and Briana Greeley contributed eight kills each. Setters Marisa Fregoso and Smriti Sharma combined for 44 assist for La Sierra. Libero Emily Morgan displayed an amazing defensive performance with 19 digs and three serve aces.

The Golden Eagles will be back in Cal Pac action tomorrow as they host Pacific Union College at 8pm.
