La Sierra Cruises Past PUC

Playing their third game in four days, the Golden Eagles volleyball team welcomed Pacific Union College on Saturday night. La Sierra was looking to carry their impressive momentum as they continue their Cal Pac action against their SDA rival. The Golden Eagles defeated the Pioneers in straight sets 25-7, 25-21, and 25-14.

Similar to Friday's game, La Sierra started the match in a dominant way with an early 9-3 lead and forcing the Pioneers coach to take a time-out. Coming off the early time-out, the Golden Eagles continued their impressive performance and force yet another time-out by PUC with the score 17-5 for La Sierra. The Golden Eagles took set one 25-7, making it the largest win margin of the season for La Sierra.

First half of the second set was a close battle between both teams. With the score tied 4-4, Krumm hit the ball into the block and gave the Pioneers their only lead in the entire set (5-4). La Sierra took control back and force coach Paul Castillo to take a time-out with the Golden Eagles leading 20-15. La Sierra took set two 25-21. The Golden Eagles closed the match with a 25-14 win in set three.

Outside hitter Michele Mendizabal led all players with an impressive 15 kills (.393) and seven digs. Kiana Krumm finished the game with nine kills (.350) and 13 digs. Taylor Moran added eight kills (.333) and five block assist. Briana Greeley recorded seven kills with no errors (.636). Setters Fregoso and Sharma combined for 39 assists. Emily Morgan finished the games with 18 digs.

The Golden Eagles finished the match with 44 kills while hitting .327, the Pioneers finished the match with 16 kills.

La Sierra will have two days off before returning to action on Tuesday, September 20th in a non-Cal Pac Match against Hope International University at 7pm.
