WBB Falls to Simpson

Riverside, Calif. - The women's basketball team fell to 0-2 (4-11 overall) in conference play as a result of Thursday night's 76-61 loss to Simpson University. The Red Hawks used a second half surge to come from behind and steal the victory. Simpson had a total of three players who scored in double figure, two of which scored over 20 points each, led by Whitney Rodriguez with 23 points.

It was the Golden Eagles who set the tone early as they jumped out to take control and lead after one quarter of play, 21-17. La Sierra maintained the advantage and went into the half with a 38-34 lead. But the second half proved to be a different story as the Red Hawks would outscore the Golden Eagles 42-23 in the half, and cruise to victory.

Both teams struggled to keep possession of the ball as they two teams combined for a total of 53 turnovers.

The Golden Eagles also had three players in double figures. Amanda Sanchez led the team with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 2-for-2 from the three point line. Alexis Davis added 12 points and six rebounds, while Mikayla Stitt contributed 10 points an seven rebounds.

On Saturday night, the Golden Eagles will host Pacific Union College as both teams look to earn their first conference win of the season. Saturday night's game is scheduled for a 6:30pm tip-off.
