Merced, Calif. - The women's soccer team fell short in a 2-1 decision at the University of California – Merced, on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops La Sierra to 3-2 in Cal Pac play (10-3 overall). With four conference matches remaining, the Golden Eagles are hanging on to the fourth and final playoff spot.
After the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 34th minute, Marisa Gonzalez tied the score at 1-1 less than a minute later, with her seventh goal of the year, on an assist by Yvette Alaniz.
The Bobcats secured the victory by scoring the only goal of the second half. By virtue of the win over La Sierra, the Bobcats sit a full game and a half ahead of the Golden Eagles in the conference standings.
On Friday, La Sierra will return to their home turf to host Embry-Riddle University. Embry-Riddle is currently ranked #19 in the national rankings and sit atop the Cal Pac standings with a record of 4-0 in conference play (11-3 overall). Friday's match is scheduled for a 12pm kick-off.
