El Cajon, Calif. - After a strong start, the women's basketball team was unable to sustain the effort in an 80-49 loss at San Diego Christian College. The Golden Eagles held a 15-4 advantage after the first quarter of play, but were subsequently outscored, 76-34, over the next three quarters. The loss drops the women's basketball team to 0-2 on the season.
The Golden Eagles were held to 34-percent from the field on 19-of-56 shooting. They also struggled taking care of the ball and were outrebounded 56-35. The Hawks had two different players notch a double-double in the game.
Elsie Mejia shot 6-of-11, for 15 points, to lead the Golden Eagles in scoring. Mikayla Stitt added nine points and eight rebounds, while Alexis Davis also tallied nine points and pulled down five rebounds in the loss.
The women's basketball team will travel to #18 The Master's College (NAIA Division I) on Tuesday evening. The Mustangs defeated the Golden Eagles, 87-52, last season. Tuesday's game is scheduled for a 7pm tip-off.
