Golden Eagles Fall at The Master's

Santa Clarita, Calif. - The women's basketball team was defeated, on the road, at #18 The Master's University, 80-54, in Tuesday's non-conference game. The Golden Eagles were outscored 28-14 in the second quarter alone. The Mustangs had three players score in double-figure, led by Hannah Forrar who finished with a game-high 20 points.

La Sierra trailed by only five points after the first quarter of play, but by the halftime buzzer, the Golden Eagles found themselves in a 44-25 deficit. Despite a relatively even third quarter, with the Golden Eagles were outscored 19-18, they were unable to chip away at the Mustangs lead.

The Mustangs dominated the play in the paint and on the boards with 18-10 advantage in points in the paint, and a 23-8 advantage in second chance baskets. The Master's finished with a 53-40 advantage in the rebounding margin, which included a 20-14 advantage in offensive rebounds.

Both teams combined for a total of 40 turnovers (TMU-21, La Sierra 19) with each team tallying 10 steals on the night. But the Mustangs notched an impressive 11 blocks in the contest, with Anika Neuman and Jessica Soares each collecting four blocks apiece.

DeShields Fajardo was the leading score for the Golden Eagles, with 13 points and six rebounds. Arianna Sheehy had nine points, while Elsie Mejia totaled with points along with a game-high five steals.

The team will now shift their focus towards Thursday night, when they visit #4 Vanguard University. The Lions, who have played five NCAA Division I exhibitions games thus far, will open their season against the Golden Eagles, at 7:30pm.
