Riverside, Calif. - The men's basketball team let a second half lead slip away and suffered a 71-70 loss to Chapman University, on Saturday night. The Golden Eagles led by as many as 17 points, early in the second half, and had a shot at the end of the game that didn't fall. The stinging loss came after the team won their first game of the season earlier in the week.
It was a tale of two halves for La Sierra who held the Panthers to 32 percent shooting in the first half, before Chapman stormed back in the second half by connecting on 16 of their 29 attempts (55 percent), including 5-of-7 from the 3pt line. The Golden Eagles enjoyed a 39-26 lead at the half and pushed the lead to 17 points in the opening minutes of the second half.
La Sierra shot a respectable 49-percent from the field and outrebounded the Panthers by a margin of 36-25. But the Golden Eagles were unable to overcome 22 turnovers, with 15 alone coming in the second half.
Senior Rey Solorzano had a monster game with 19 points and 13 rebounds and four assists. Fellow senior Isaac Deese pitched in 18 points with three assists, while Kenny Lewis added nine points by connecting on 3-of-5 shots from beyond the arc.
The men's basketball team will turn the page and prepare to host Westcliff University, on Wednesday evening, at 6pm. The Warriors are a relatively new program with a current record of 1-11 on the season.
