Lancaster, Calif. - The Golden Eagles baseball team dropped the first two games of a 3-game series at the University of Antelope Valley, before abandoning the third game due to rain. The two teams met, in Lancaster, Calif., on Friday where the Pioneers defeated the Golden Eagles 6-2. The series resumed on Sunday for a scheduled doubleheader that was cut short due to weather. Antelope Valley took the first game, 9-4, and was leading in the second game before the rain game. The game is currently listed as 'suspended' as plans are being made to complete it sometime in the near future.
In Friday's loss, the Pioneers took the early lead with three runs in the bottom half of the first inning and never looked back. The Golden Eagles were held to just two runs on four hits in the game.
Gabriel Gonzalez was charged with the loss after giving up four runs, on eight hits, in 4 2/3 innings.
In Sunday's only completed game, the Pioneers scored eight of their nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings on their way to the 9-4 victory. The Golden Eagles scored all four of their runs in the eighth inning, but were unable to close the gap further.
Craig Woolson had two of the team's seven hits and tallied all four runs batted in with a grand slam homerun in the Golden Eagles half of the eighth inning.
Julian Viscaro got the start for the Golden Eagles and was charged with the loss after going 5 1/3 innings while surrendering five runs on nine hits.
The baseball team will return to action on Thursday with the first game of a 3-game series at Providence Christian College (Pasadena, Calif.). The two teams will meet on Friday for a doubleheader to closeout the series, starting at 11am.
