Late Goal Nullifies Golden Eagles Comeback In Loss to Bethesda

Riverside, Calif. - After thing the score at 2-2, the Golden Eagles surrendered a late goal and lost 3-2 to Bethesda University in tonight's non-conference match-up. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 0-2 on the season. Tonight's two goals are the first goals of the season scored by the Golden Eagles.

The Flames took the early lead with a goal from Eduardo Faria in the 18th minute and pushed that lead to 2-0 with another goal from Faria in the 35th minute. Bethesda cruised into the halftime break with the two-goal lead and an 11-3 advantage in total shots.

The second half was scoreless until Israel Vasquez put the Golden Eagles on the board and cut the lead to 2-1, with a goal in the 78th minute. Just over six minutes later, Vasquez pulled the Golden Eagles even with another goal in the 84th minute.

But the Flames took the lead for good when a crossing pass, by Faria, found the foot of Cesar Pompa, for the 3-2 victory.

Yuri Mussi got the win in goal for the Flames, while La Sierra's Javier Lopez picked up the loss. Each goalkeeper picked up four saves in the match.

The men's soccer team will take to the road in search of their first win of the season when they travel to San Diego Christian College this coming Thursday afternoon. The match is scheduled for a 1:00pm start at Town Center Park East/Santee Sportsplex, located at 550 Park Center Drive, Santee, Calif. 92071.
