Men's Soccer Jumps Into the Win Column With Victory Over Hope International

Riverside, Calif. - The men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season in tonight's 2-1 win over Hope International University, at La Sierra Field. Some might view the win as an upset as the Royals were receiving votes for Top 25 consideration. While it was the first win of the season for the Golden Eagles, it was the first loss of the season for the Royals.

Jourdan Franco started the scoring with an early goal, on a nice feed from Sebastian Perry, in the 6th minute of play. The Golden Eagles took the lead into the halftime break, before pushing the lead to 2-0 on a penalty kick goal by Israel Vasquez (65th minute).

The Royals were also awarded a penalty kick, in the 78th minute, accounting for their only goal of the match. For the final 12 minutes of the match, the Golden Eagles survived a barrage of offensive attacks thrown their way by the Royals.

Javier Lopez finished with a total of six saves in his first win of the season.

The team will have a unique situation on Sunday evening with they will play as the visiting team on their home field. Due to field availability, St. Katherine College, will host a match on La Sierra Field. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 6pm.
