Golden Eagles Defeat Ottawa With Two Second Half Goals

Riverside, Calif. - On a warm Saturday evening, the women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over Ottawa University (Ariz.). The Golden Eagles defense has yet to allow a goal this season their two matches of play. It was the first loss of the season for the Spirit who dropped to 4-1 on the season.

After the two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, Andrea Sida connected on a pass from Monica Santana to put the Golden Eagles on the board, in the 52nd minute.

In the 89th minute, Hanna Kanagawa found a cross from Sida and put it in the back of the net for a late insurance goal.

The Spirit had their opportunities with two shots bouncing off the post and staying out of the net. The Golden Eagles also hit a crossbar on Mariah Anaya's 40-yard shot that sailed just over the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Brooke Riddle.

Lauren Holly picks up her second win of the young season, finishing with three saves on the night.

It will be a quick turnaround for the young Golden Eagles squad who will be back on the pitch tonight when they host the University of Providence. It will be the season opening match for the Argonauts who play in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, within the NAIA. Sunday's match is scheduled for another 8pm kickoff.
