Women's Soccer Win Second Match of a Back-to-Back to Improve to 3-0

Riverside, Calif. - The women's soccer team remained perfect through their first three matches with tonight's 1-0 victory over the University of Providence. The Golden Eagles defense, including goalkeeper Lauren Holly, have yet to allow a goal this season. With a record of 3-0, the team has already matched their win total from last season.

Anelis Mora scored the only goal in the match, in the 44th minute, just prior to the halftime break. Maraiah Anaya was initially thought to have scored but the officials ruled Mora as the goal scorer. Mora scored the goal off of a free-kick by Anaya, that the Argos goalkeeper was able to get her hands on but Mora was right in front to tap it in.

The Argos, while being outshot by the Golden Eagles 10-3 (7-1 in shots on goal), had a handful of chances in the second half but the ball either sailed just over the crossbar or wide of the post.

"I thought we responded well. I thought our energy was good", said head coach David Trevino. Considering the team was playing the second match of a back-to-back, the team was able to fight through the fatigue. Trevino acknowledged that there was a "drop-off" in the second half as a result of the back-to-back but he credited his deep bench with coming in and doing the job picking things up and pushing the team over the finish line.

The women's soccer team will have a couple days of rest before closing out a three-match home stand when they host Shepherd University, this Wednesday. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7pm.
