Mesa, Ariz. - The women's basketball team fell to 3-4 in Cal Pac play with Saturday's 80-76 loss at Bendictine University – Mesa. Despite a strong second half, by the Golden Eagles, the team fell short and will now enter their bye week, with a week to prepare for the start of the second round of conference play.
La Sierra was slow out of the blocks, with the home team Red Hawks jumping out to a 25-13 lead after the first quarter of play. By halftime, the Golden Eagles cut the lead to 39-31, and trimmed it to 57-51 by the end of three quarters. La Sierra continued to chip away at the lead, and midway through the fourth quarter had not only erased the deficit, but took a six-point lead with 4:22 to play, with the help of an 18-6. But the Red Hawks were able to re-group just in time, regaining the lead in the final two minutes of play.
Alexis Davis notched another double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the game. Mikayla Stitt led the team with 17 points in addition to eight rebounds. Elsie Mejia also scored in double-figures with a total of 11 points and five rebounds.
The team will return to action on Saturday night when they host the University of Antelope Valley, at 6:30pm, to start the second half of the Cal Pac schedule.
