Riverside, Calif. - The baseball team split the final two games of a three-game series against Bethesda University, 1-4 and 5-4, taking two of the three games on Sunday afternoon. The win pushes the team's record to 3-1 on the season. La Sierra returns to action on Tuesday with another non-conference game at Hope International.
In the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, the Golden Eagles were held to just one run on four hits, dropping their first game of the season, 4-1. Bethesda used six hits to score their four runs within the first three innings of play. La Sierra's bullpen came in to keep things close, giving up just three hits over the final six innings of play, but Bethesda's Marco Perea went seven complete innings to pick up the victory, with Kody Lewis pitching the final two innings for the save.
In Game 2, the Golden Eagles quickly jumped on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning. The 1-0 lead held up, until Bethesda scored two runs in the fourth inning, taking a 2-1 lead. La Sierra regained the lead with four runs in their half of the fifth inning, before giving two runs back in the top of the sixth inning. The Golden Eagles held on for the victory, with Chris Johnson picking up the win after going six complete innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits.
Matt Majher went 2-for-3, including a homerun, driving in three of the team's five runs. Craig Woolson added a two-run single, accounting for the Golden Eagles other two runs.
