Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB Unable to Overcome First Quarter Deficit In Loss at Simpson

Redding, Calif. - The women's basketball team fell to 1-1 in Cal Pac play with Thursday's 70-60 loss at Simpson University. The Redhawks jumped out to an early lead they would never relinquish. La Sierra will close the road trip on Saturday night, with a visit to Pacific Union College.

After Simpson took a 20-12 advantage after one quarter of play, the two teams played relatively even over the next three quarters. Unfortunately, for the Golden Eagles, they were unable to erase the home team's advantage in dropping their first conference game.

Simpson scored 30 of their 70 points from the three-point line, including 6-of-12 in the second half alone. They finished the game shooting 40-percent from the three-point line, compared to 37-percent from the field.

La Sierra connected on 23 of their 63 shot attempts, including 4-of-17 from the three-point line.

The Golden Eagles finished with four players scoring in double figures, led by Mikayla Stitt who tallied 14 points to go along with eight rebounds. Alexis Davis finished close behind with 13 points and nine rebounds. DeShield Fajardo and Elsie Mejia rounded out the scoring leader for La Sierra, with 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Fajardo also added five assists to lead the team in that category.

The team will now set their sights on Pacific Union (0-2, 1-7) who is still in search of their first conference win of the season. The Golden Eagles split the two contests with the Pioneers last season. Saturday's game is set to tip-off at approximately 6:30pm.
